Simple explained, to make your body live, it needs energy. This energy is delivered by our foods and drinks we take each day. To transform this in usefull energy for the muscles and organs it needs to be changed into ''micro batteries'' called ATP. This processneeds most of the time Oxigene (O2=aerobic ) to burn, like a wax-candle needs O2 to keep on burningas well. In this way the O2 can use the calories out of the Fats and Carbohydrates to make as much ATP's as needed to live.

In rest a body has a Basic Rest Metabolism, the amount of calories/energy your body just needs tostay alive. All food/drinks/energy you will take in extrawill be stashed as reserve energy in blood sugars and or later if not used infatty acids and in the night changed into ourFAT reserves.Our body is very energy efficient and very economical (almost Dutch!!!).
To burn this extra reserve energy we need to be more active than the usual daily Basic Rest Metabolism burns. Therfore we need to ventilate a lot of air with O2 in it. Than we can burn these reserves in an effective away. It is possible to bun up to 500 Kcal per hour activity. Around 50% are comming out of our fat reserves, the other 50% out of our blood sugars.

The more O2 we can transport at the same time and the more muscle cells can be active during training, the more total Calories we will burn and less calories will stay in our body to transform at the end into FAT.
